Men's Hockey drops series against Indiana Tech

(Chelsea, MI) – The Cardinals men's hockey team hosted with the 6th-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors Saturday night in a rematch of the night before. Concordia battled the Warriors for all three periods, but eventually fell by a final score of 3-1. 

 

The first period involved several back and forth chances, with both sides earning quality opportunities on goal. The period remained scoreless, however, until Indiana Tech broke the tie as a puck squeaked into the net with 5:37 remaining in the frame. The period would end with a 1-0 Warriors lead, as IT outshot the Cardinals 16-8.

 

Concordia bounced back in the second, as the Jacob Gerace would fire home a rebound off a Tyler Groth shot to even the score at 1 with 8:51 remaining in the period. Brandon Kucera also picked up an assist on the score.

 

Indiana Tech responded with a short handed goal at the 2:46 mark, putting them in a lead by the score of 2-1 as the second frame would conclude. 

 

The Cardinals fought back in the third period, gaining several high quality opportunities in the slot with a chance to tie the game up. The Warriors goalie stood tall, however, making every save in the period to blank CUAA. Indiana Tech eventually scored an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining, putting the game away with by the final score of 3-1.

 

Elijah Gibbons started in net for the Cardinals, standing on his head with an incredible 39 saves on 41 shots against to keep Concordia close. 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action next Friday when they hit the road to face the 8th-ranked UM-Dearborn Wolverines. Puck drop is set for 7pm at UM-Dearborn Ice Arena in Dearborn, MI.
