Men's Hockey loses matchup against #17 Lakers

(Canton, MI) - Concordia Men's Hockey was back at the Arctic Edge of Canton for the second consecutive night with a home game, this time facing off with the 17th-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers. The Lakers took the lead in the game late in the opening period, before tacking on 3 goals in both the middle and final frame of the contest on the way to a 7-1 victory.

Zachary Janis started in net for the Cardinals, making 32 saves in the defeat.

The Cardinals opened the game with the advantage, outshooting the Lakers 13-8 in the first period as they earned 4 powerplays in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Lakers would get on the board first, however, scoring with just over 2 minutes to go in the period to hold the one goal lead at the break.

Grand Valley State controlled play in the second period, outshooting CUAA 19-7 in the frame and tacking on 3 more goals to extend the advantage to 4-0 going into the second intermission.

The #17 Lakers continued to dominate, scoring 3 more goals in the final frame despite being outshot 15-12 in the period. The Cardinals would spoil the GVSU shutout with less than two minutes to go, as Bryce Iott would take a feed from Quinn Bieniek and snipe it into the top right corner for a Concordia powerplay goal. The Lakers would hold the contest level at that mark the rest of the way, securing a 7-1 victory on Saturday evening.

Next up for the Cardinals, they will hit the road for a rematch with the 17th-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers tomorrow, December 4th, with puck drop set for 2:30pm at Griff's Georgetown in Hudsonville, MI.
