Racers defeat Cardinals 7-4 in WHAC Tournament

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia baseball competed in the final game of pod 2 at the WHAC conference tournament on Saturday morning, facing off against #3 seed UNOH.  The Cardinals looked to win the pod and advance after defeating UNOH 7-2 the previous day.  CUAA took an early 1-0 lead in the game, but the team was unable to overcome a late deficit and fell 7-4.

 

Joe Tany started the game on the mound, making 2 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.  Concordia turned a double play to close out the top of the 3rd inning and scored the first run in the bottom half.  Victor Diaz had a bases-loaded RBI on a fielder's choice situation which drove in Vann Acker.

UNOH countered with a solo home run to tie the game in the 4th.  The Racers added 3 more runs in the 5th to take a 4-1 lead.  Jacob Henry came on in relief to finish the inning, notching 2 strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

Ryan Kotecki came in to pitch midway through the 8th inning.  UNOH scored 2 more runs in the 8th, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom half of the inning on a 3-run home run from RJ Bortle.  Bortle's homer also scored Chris Lowe and Calvin Syrjala, cutting the deficit to 6-4.

UNOH added another run in the 9thElijah Abenth came in to secure the final strikeout of the inning, but the Cardinals were unable to score in the bottom of the 9th.

 

Concordia will now await their post season fate.
