(Wilmore, KY) – Concordia baseball traveled south to Asbury to open a 3-game series on Monday night. The Cardinals continued swinging the bat well with a 15-4 win to trigger the mercy rule.
Tyson Kleinfelter started on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings with 7 strikeouts. Curtis Townsend opened scoring with a solo home run to start the 1st. Asbury tied the game in the bottom half.
Curtis Townsend hit a 2-RBI double in the 2nd, driving in Caleb Harmond and Jordan Sherman. In the 3rd, Jordan Sherman lined a deep 2-RBI double scoring James (Jimmy) Wressel and Drew Fleming. Drew Fleming added a 2-run homer in the 4th for a 7-1 lead.
Asbury added 3 runs in the next 2 innings to trim the lead to 7-4. James (Jimmy) Wressel responded in the 6th with a grand slam to clear the bases. Kyle Hebner continued the big hits with his own grand slam in the 7th for a 15-4 lead.
Kyle Winslow notched a pair of strikeouts in the 7th to secure the mercy-rule win.
Concordia will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 12pm and 3pm.
