Esports Weekly Update (September 18-24)

Rocket League continued the inaugural season of WHAC Esports play with games against Lawrence Tech on Sunday, September 19th and Lourdes on Tuesday, September 21st. Against Lawrence Tech, the team dropped game one of the best-of-five series by a score of 2-1 but then won three games straight, all in overtime, to take the series 3-1. Freshman Clayton " OG Waffle" Hoskins led the team with 6 goals, 10 saves, and 14 shots in the series with one of his goals coming in the last second in game three to send it to overtime. That win was Concordia's first of the season and also Lawrence Tech's first loss.


The team's good play continued on the following Tuesday with two 1-0 victories over Lourdes, but the luck ran out as Lourdes responded by winning three in a row to take the overall series 3-2. The Cardinals' record on the season is now 1-4 with their next match coming on Wednesday, September 29th at 7:30pm. The match will be streamed live at twitch.tv/cuaa_esports

 

The members of the Smash team have embraced numerous local in-person events to continue to develop until dedicated collegiate events get going. Captain Zach "Yoderlaheehoo" Yoder recently finished 3rd at an event hosted by Eastern Michigan. Justin "Jgoody" Goodrich and Hunter "Smitty" Smith both finished tied for 33rd at The Oasis on Thursday. 

 

Fortnite began their preseason in PlayVS on Wednesday, September 22nd with returning captain Zach "Zburk24" Burk. Also playing in solos this year will be freshman Marek " Hiphopss88" Bernhardt. Later in the season, some trios competitions will take place as well. 

 

The Madden season begun this past Tuesday, September 21st with a preseason match for Drew "Drewfighter1281" Burk against Buena Vista College. Burk took all three games by scores of 13-0, 26-23 (OT), and 38-6. He will begin the regular season in the PlayVS National PlayStation league on Tuesday, September 28th against Nichols College . Freshman Jordan "DefeatedLeaf772" Ponce will begin his season in the Xbox version of the league on the same day against State College of Florida..
