Football's 6-year home winning streak snapped by #9 Marian

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia football returned home for the first time in over a month to host #9 Marian in MSFA Mideast play.  The Cardinals played the Knights tough throughout the game, but Marian was able to hold on for a 24-7 win, breaking Concordia's 27 game win streak at Cardinal Stadium.

Jalen Smith threw for 213 yards and a touchdown.  Brandon Stewart rushed for 108 yards on the day.  Seeger DeGayner led all receivers with 121 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Liam Karry led the team with 12 tackles.  Colby Kohmescher and Collin Vaughn tied for second with 9 tackles apiece.

Concordia kicked off to Marian to begin the game.  After a defensive stop, the Cardinals put together a 9-play, 52-yard drive down to the Knights' 23-yard line.  Jalen Smith found Logan Hay for a 30-yard gain, but the drive ended on a turnover on downs.

Both defenses continued to hold strong through most of the first quarter.  Marian was able to strike first with a touchdown drive late in the first quarter go up 7-0.

Seeger DeGayner caught a 42-yard pass on the next series, but the drive would end in a punt.  Marian extended their lead with another scoring drive to take a 14-0 lead.

The Concordia offense converted late in the second quarter with an 8-play, 86-yard drive.  Jalen Smith found Seeger DeGayner for a 30-yard touchdown strike to pull within a touchdown.

Marian tacked on a field goal before halftime and led 17-7 heading to the break.

The Knights put together a scoring drive to open the third quarter.  The Cardinals moved into Marian territory midway through the third quarter but were unable to convert on fourth down.

Concordia moved into Marian territory again in the fourth quarter after a 27-yard run by Brandon Stewart.  The drive stalled at the Knight's 22-yard line after a turnover on downs.

While the Cardinal defense remained strong and prevented any more points, CUAA was unable to mount a comeback and fell 24-7.

Concordia will remain at home next Saturday, October 29 when they host Lawrence Tech at 1pm for homecoming.
