WEEK 9 GAME NOTES: FOOTBALL PREPS FOR ROAD CLASH AT MADONNA

 

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia football will be preparing this week to travel to Madonna in MSFA Mideast play.  The Cardinals got back in the win column last week with a 44-21 homecoming victory over Lawrence Tech.  The Crusaders had a bye this past week and were not in action.  CUAA leads the all-time series 2-0.

Madonna at a glance

Madonna enters the contest with an 0-9 record.  The Crusaders' closest contest was a 44-37 overtime loss against Missouri Baptist.  While the team has been shut out in 4 of their 9 games, they have scored 49 points in their last two matches.  Former Michigan State standout Herb Haygood enters his 3rd year at the helm.

 

Player of the Week Honors

Brandon Stewart was named Offensive Player of the Week at the MSFA level.  The freshman running back ran for 149 yards on 21 carries, scoring 2 touchdowns on the ground.  Stewart added a 34-yard receiving touchdown off a hook-and-lateral play to cap the day.

Andrew Wiemer earned Defensive Player of the Week at the NCCAA level.  The junior defensive back recorded two interceptions in the team's victory over Lawrence Tech last week.  Wiemer added 2 tackles on the day as well.

 

NAIA Coaches Poll

Indiana Wesleyan stayed at #5 in the latest edition of the NAIA Coaches Poll.  Marian moved up one spot to #7.  In the Midwest, Saint Xavier stayed #11 while Roosevelt fell one spot to #16.  Saint Francis (IL) entered the poll at #25.
