(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia football hosted #25 St. Francis (IL) in a MSFA crossover game on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell 44-7.
Colby Kohmescher threw for 136 yards in the contest. Brandon Stewart led the ground attack with 60 rushing yards. James Carpenter added 18 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jordan Garcia led receivers with 38 yards.
On defense, Chase Maynard led the team with 12 tackles. Liam Karry finished second with ten tackles. Ben Tadych was third with eight tackles. Davion Coats recorded an interception and six tackles.
Concordia kicked off to St. Francis to open the game. The Fighting Saints came out with a strong offense, scoring on their first three possessions. The Cardinals broke through near the end of the quarter with a 6-play, 60-yard touchdown drive. James Carpenter took a handoff and punched in a 4-yard touchdown. CUAA trailed 21-7 after the first quarter.
St. Francis added another touchdown drive early in the second quarter. Both teams traded turnovers with Davion Coats making an interception on a deflected ball. The Cardinals had some excitement late in the half with Seeger DeGayner taking a pass and lateraling to Jordan Garcia who then dished the ball of to Devin Roiter. However, St. Francis led 35-7 at halftime.
The Cardinal defense held St. Francis to a field goal in the third quarter. The Fighting Saints scored early in the fourth quarter, but Evan Pittenger was able to block the extra point. The Cardinals were able to make a 14-play, 54-yard drive down to the St. Francis 5-yard line. However, a pass to the endzone on fourth down fell incomplete. CUAA fell by a final score of 44-7.
Concordia will travel to #11 Saint Xavier (IL) next week at 6:30pm.
