(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia men's basketball played at Lourdes on Wednesday evening to resume WHAC play. The Cardinals fought hard but were unable to mount a comeback in an 84-59 defeat.
Jason Jergens and Zackary Johnson tied with a team-high 10 points. Matt Lockhart led the team with 7 rebounds.
Zac Clark had the first Cardinal basket with a layup, ending a 15-0 Lourdes run. Devyn Jones made a 3-pointer and Clark continued to score inside with three more layups. Colton Ritsema converted inside and Jayden Priddy made a drive to the hoop, but CUAA trailed 25-15 at the midway point.
Kip French hit a triple and a layup to cut the deficit to 6 points. After a layup from Ethan Young and a 3-pointer from Zackary Johnson, CUAA only trailed 28-25 with 7:10 to play. Johnson added free throws and Colton Ritsema scored inside, but Lourdes rebuilt a double-digit lead late in the half. Matt Lockhart had a late layup and CUAA trailed 47-34 at halftime.
Nate Brighton banked in a jumper early in the second half. Zackary Johnson drove to the hoop as well, but Lourdes countered with a 12-0 run until a Kip French layup. Jayden Priddy hit a triple and Devyn Jones made a mid-range jumper.
Ethan Young scored another basket and Jason Jergens knocked down three late triples to reach double figures. Henry Knapp got on the scoresheet with a layup with 1:28 to play. Lourdes claimed the 84-59 win as time expired.
Concordia will return home this Saturday to host Indiana Tech at 3pm.
