(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted Lambton on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup. The Cardinals turned in a stellar offensive performance, passing the century mark in a 104-65 victory.
Zavion McClendon led the team with 23 points. Joey Garwood finished a close second with 22 points. Evan Neff (16), Nate Brighton (12), and Mark DeVries (10) were also in double figures. Brighton and DeVries tied for a team-high 9 rebounds. Mason Canfield notched 10 assists.
Nate Brighton made a layup for Concordia's first points. Joey Garwood hit a pair of 3-pointers and made a tip-in to spark the offense. Devyn Jones drove for a basket and Mark DeVries made a pair of inside buckets. Zavion McClendon and Evan Neff scored as well with a McClendon triple putting CUAA up 29-15 at the midway point of the half.
Joey Garwood and Evan Neff nailed shots from behind the arc to extend the lead. Garwood added a jumper and a 3-pointer and both Nate Brighton and Zavion McClendon drove to the hoop. McClendon finished an "and-1" and a late triple from Matt Kohler gave the Cardinals a 56-28 lead at halftime.
Zavion McClendon started the second half with a pair of 3-pointers. Joey Garwood continued to score baskets and Devyn Jones finished off an "and-1". Nate Brighton made a pair of 3-pointers and both Evan Neff and Zavion McClendon connected with triples. Matt Kohler and Neff continued the 3-point onslaught for a 90-50 lead at the midway point.
Mark DeVries scored a layup and Jack MacLeod knocked down a triple to extend the lead. Nyelle Shaheed had the honor of getting the Cardinals to 100 points with a 3-pointer. Shaheed added a layup down the stretch and Concordia claimed the 104-65 win as time expired.
Concordia will remain at home this Saturday to host Lawrence Tech at 3pm.
