SEASON PREVIEW: Men's Bowling set to open season at Rochester Classic

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Men's Bowling team will open up a new season when they travel to the Rochester Classic on Saturday. The Cardinals are set for another season of competition in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as they will look for their first WHAC Regular Season Championship since the 2015-16 season. 

 

Returning Players

A total of eight different Cardinals will return to the team this season for the Cardinals which include Marek Bernhardt, Alexander Bumpus, Patrick Good Jr., Brenden Gossman, Jeffrey Lizewski, Korey Reichard, David Smalls, and Logan Teubert.

 

Korey Reichard will be the top returner this season as last year he totaled a 200.43 pin average over 74 games, which is the 8th best mark in program history, he had a high game of 290 at the Glenn Carson Invitational. Logan Teubert bowled a total of 7 games last season on the Varsity team as he totaled a 199.29 average. Brenden Gossman was able to knock down an average of 195.79 pins over 73 games. 

 

Jeffrey Lizewski (29 games), Alexander Bumpus (19), and Patrick Good Jr. (45) all also competed at the varsity level as they bowled a 190.9, 182.74, and 174.42 pin average respectively throughout the season.

 

Team Highlight

As a team, the Cardinals saw success not only as individuals but also on the team stage. Last February the Cardinals ended up coming away with a first-place finish at the Scotty Classic with a total score of 7666 pins. At this tournament, the Cards also recorded the sixth-highest 4-game series average with a 1031.5.

 

The Cardinals were also able to break a couple of records including the team series average for a five-game set at the Falcon Classic as Alexander Bumpus, Izaac Goergen, Patrick Good Jr., Brenden Gossman, Kyle Lewis, Korey Reichard all participated in earning a 1085.6 average for the tournament. 

 

Overall as a team, the Cardinals were able to shoot the second-highest average in program history with a 990.76 throughout the entire season.

 

2022-23 Schedule

After the Rochester Classic this weekend the Cards will travel to the Midwest Collegiate Championship on the 1st and 2nd of October. The 8th of October will feature the first WHAC Jamboree of the season that will be hosted by Lawrence Tech. With a couple of weeks off, the 29th and 30th will feature the Cards traveling to the American Heartland Tournament.

 

November will see the Cards participate in two different tournaments. On the 5th will be the second of the WHAC Jamborees which will be hosted by Madonna. The only other time the team will hit the lanes in November will be on the 19th at the Falcon Classic.

 

December features the third WHAC Jamboree and a trip to Las Vegas for the Glenn Carson Invitational and the Collegiate Shootout. The Jamboree will be on December 12th, while the Cards will be in Las Vegas from the 18th to the 21st. 

 

The only time Concordia hits the lanes in January will be at the Kegal Collegiate Classic on the 14th and 15th of the month.

 

As we head into February the Cards will travel to four different events including the 4th WHAC Jamboree on the 4th, the Scotty Classic on the 11th, the Hoosier Classic on the 18th and 19th, and will round out the month with the WHAC Championships on the 25th. 

 

The month of March will mainly feature postseason play for the ISC Sectionals and the ITC Sectionals March 10th-12th. The NAIA National Championships will be on March 23rd-25th, if the Cardinals qualify in order to participate.
