Men's Soccer falls to Alma in Season Opener

(ANN ARBOR, MI) - The Concordia Men's Soccer team kicked off a fresh season on Thursday afternoon, going up against NCAA Division III opponent Alma College. Not only did the game kick off the 2022 schedule, but also Jason Clare's first game as the Head Coach of the program.

The Cardinals' Bryce Ferrin looked to put the Cardinals up on the scoreboard early in the game tallying three shots in the first 20 minutes. Two of those shots he nearly put in the back of the net following a cross from the outside, that the goalie was able to knock away.

Alma had their best chance of the first half when they were able to put a ball in the back of the net, but it ended up being called back due to an offsides call.

Ferrin did end up getting his fourth shot of the game to get into the back of the net as he intercepted Scot's pass and got off an 18-yard pass to hit the bottom corner of the net for the first goal of the Cardinal season.

The Scots struck back in the second half just seven minutes in as Joe Rawlin sent a ball into the box off of a corner kick to the far post as Jack Lockerbie hit the back of the net to tie the game at a goal apiece. Four minutes later the Scots got a second goal on the scoreboard as they attempted a cross but ultimately the ball was put in the goal off the foot of a Cardinal defender.

Alma was able to tack onto their lead in the 66th minute as a pass deflected off the Cardinal's defense and Christian Sweis was able to net his first goal of the game. This made the score 3-1, which ended as the final score of the game.

Next up for the Cardinals will be the first game of a five-game road trip as they will take on Spring Arbor on Saturday with a 1 PM kickoff.
