Men's Soccer falls to Rochester at home

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Men's Soccer team took to their home pitch Friday afternoon for a showdown against Rochester. The Warriors scored a goal early in the first half which the Cardinals were never able to overcome in the 3-1 loss.

The Cardinals got a look early on when an Alexander Valencia corner kick was sent over the crossbar by Luke Neuhaus.

Nik Gjonaj sent a through ball to Dmitar Stankovic to put the Warriors up in the eighth minute of play.

The Cardinal defense thwarted a strong Warrior attack when Kyri Wixom stopped a shot followed by Raul Elizondo making a defensive save and then clearing the ball away off of another defensive save.

Concordia was able to win several free kicks early on in the second half, but was unable to capitalize on the opportunities. The Cardinals best look was a Marcello Pinterpe free kick that beat the Rochester keeper, but hit the crossbar.

Rochester's Viktor Juncaj made a move down the left side to put a shot on goal, but Elijah Boye came out of nowhere to make a defensive save late in the game.

Minutes later Dmitar Stankovic netted his second goal of the game to put the Rochester advantage at two.

The Cardinals got on the board when Jose Garcia Garrues found Bryce Ferrin down the right side. Ferrin outran the Warrior keeper and snuck one into the net from a tight angle.

Rochester responded quickly when Sean Reardon scored a goal less than a minute later.

The Warriors' Ivan Stojanovic gained a pair of yellows resulting in a red card and an ejection from the game, meaning the Cardinals played the final 12 minutes up a man.

The Cardinals will stay at home for a match against 13th ranked UNOH. They will host the Racers on Wednesday, October 26th, with kickoff set for 1:00 PM.
