Women's basketball overpowers Racers 78-43 with four Cardinals in double figures

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC conference matchup. The Cardinals came in 13-9 overall with a 7-6 WHAC record while the Racers entered the contest 8-15 overall and 3-10 in the WHAC. CUAA jumped ahead early and led for the entire game in a dominant 78-43 victory.

The Cardinals featured balanced scoring with Asaria Turman (FR/Ypsilanti, MI), Lindsey Ferrington (FR/Flint, MI), Stephanie Abraham (SO/Marine City, MI) and Tris'styn Williams (JR/New Baltimore, MI) tying for the team lead with 10 points. J'May Simmons and Paige Johnson (SO/Howell, MI) tied for the team high with 5 rebounds.

Madison Birchmeier (FR/Corunna, MI) opened scoring in the game with a 3-pointer. The Cardinals jumped out to an 11-4 advantage after a basket by Stephanie Abraham and back-to-back triples from Jade Finfera (FR/Delta, OH). Katie Snow (JR/Grosse Pointe Woods, MI) chipped in a pair of free throws and a layup and Lindsey Ferrington scored a basket and a 3-pointer. Madison Birchmeier continued the team's onslaught from behind the arc with a triple and CUAA led 23-15 after the 1st.

Samantha Dorn (FR/Brownstown, MI) started off the 2nd quarter with a 3-pointer. Asaria Turman began a 17-0 run with a layup in the paint, stretching Concordia's lead to 43-19 at the 1:55 mark. Paige Johnson and Madison Birchmeier drained triples during the run while Tris'styn Williams had three baskets. CUAA held a commanding 43-22 lead heading to halftime.

Tris'styn Williams scored the first basket in the 3rd quarter. Stephanie Abraham added a layup inside off a solid post move. Asaria Turman scored 6 unanswered Concordia points with strong play in the paint and CUAA led 53-35 after the 3rd.

Katie Snow opened scoring in the 4th quarter off a quick feed from J'May Simmons. The Cardinals began the 4th quarter on 13-5 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Paige Johnson. Lindsey Ferrington drained another triple and Asaria Turman scored inside with Rebecca Laberge (SR/Quebec City, QC) drawing the assist. Laberge added a blocked shot and Jerrica Neal (SR/Gary, IN) converted an old-fashioned three-point play after a layup off the high glass. Concordia secured a 78-43 victory as time expired.

The Cardinals improve to 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the WHAC. The team will head on the road this Wednesday, February 5 with a WHAC matchup against Rochester. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
