Women's Basketball falls to Indiana South Bend

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Indiana South-Bend on Saturday afternoon in their second game of the year.  The Cardinals looked to build a winning streak after downing Spring Arbor on Thursday evening.  CUAA continued to battle throughout the game, but the Titans came away with an 81-64 win.

Samantha Dorn led Concordia with a career-high 15 points.  Mackenzie Howe finished second with 11 points.  Asaria Turman was third with 11 points.  Taylor Leatherman led the team with 6 rebounds.

 

Alize Tripp made a layup to open the scoring in the game.  Samantha Dorn added a wide-open triple in the corner for a 5-2 lead.  After the Titans answered with a 7-0 run, Keirslynn Lawless and Julia Hirt tied the game 9-9 with layups.  Taylor Leatherman added two free throws to start a 7-1 run with Asaria Turman and Mackenzie Howe scoring inside.  CUAA led 19-17 after the 1st quarter.

Zaria Mitchner hit a jump shot for the first Cardinal basket in the 2nd quarter.  Asaria Turman and Mackenzie Howe converted inside, but the Titans jumped out to a 30-23 lead at the 6:32 mark.  Izzy Viau converted a layup and Samantha Dorn knocked down a deep triple late in the quarter.  Mackenzie Howe chipped in two free throws and a layup and Asaria Turman made an offensive putback, trimming the deficit to 43-38 at halftime.

 

Zaria Mitchner ended a 7-0 Titans run with a layup.  Asaria Turman converted a layup inside and Samantha Dorn rattled in a 3-pointer.  Taylor Leatherman added a layup and a free throw and Mackenzie Howe scored inside to cut the deficit to 58-51.  However, the Titans closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to rebuild their lead.

Taylor Leatherman opened the scoring in the 4th quarter with a free throw.  Izzy Viau added a free throw and Julia Hirt scored a layup, but the Titans continued to maintain their advantage.  Zaria Mitchner chipped in two free throws and Samantha Dorn scored two layups to reach her career-high, but the Cardinals fell 81-64 as time expired.

 

Concordia will return to action on Monday, November 1 when they travel to NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan for an exhibition contest at 7 pm.
