Cardinals unable to come back against #11 Indiana Wesleyan

(Richmond, IN) Concordia Women's Basketball returned to the court Saturday afternoon for a matchup against 11th ranked Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats started off the game with a strong first quarter, which the Cardinals were unable to fully come back from as they ultimately lost 80-58.

 

Julia Hirt led the team with a career high 20 points. Samantha Dorn was second on the team with 14 points. Keirslynn Lawless pulled down 8 rebounds, all offensive.

 

 

Indiana Wesleyan came out of the gates strong with six straight points. Samantha Dorn answered with a triple, but the Wildcats continued to grow their lead throughout the quarter. Their advantage ballooned to 15 points near the end of the first, as IWU shot 61.5% from the field and pulled down four offensive rebounds.

 

The Cardinals outscored the Wildcats in the second quarter, limiting Indiana Wesleyan from beyond the arc. Concordia had 7 second chance points in the second quarter to help keep up with the Wildcats. Julia Hirt scored in a variety of ways for the Cardinals in the quarter as well.

 

Samantha Dorn scored a quick five points early in the third quarter before Julia Hirt knocked down back-to-back threes. Monae Palmer converted the old-fashioned three-point play to pull the Cardinals within ten towards the end of the third quarter.

 

Dorn put up another four points in the beginning of the fourth quarter, but IWU grew their lead back up to 15. The Wildcats then went on to score nine unanswered points in the back half of the fourth quarter to close out the game for an 80-58 win.

 

 

The Cardinals will enter WHAC play up next, with a matchup against Lourdes on Wednesday, November 9th. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM in the Cardinal Fieldhouse.
