(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball played host to rival Madonna on Saturday afternoon in a WHAC contest. The Cardinals controlled the game throughout and secured a 66-49 win.
Samantha Dorn led the team with 12 points, going 4-5 from behind the arc. Monae Palmer finished second with 11 points. Taylor Leatherman's double-double gave her a team-high 11 rebounds and 10 points.
Monae Palmer opened scoring with a layup. Zaria Mitchner drove for a basket and Julia Hirt made an offensive putback as the game was close early. Izzy Viau made a layup and both Taylor Leatherman and Samantha Dorn knocked down go-ahead triples. Izzy Hadley used a scoop shot to score and Dorn added another 3-pointer. Free throws from Monae Palmer and a triple from Julia Hirt capped a 10-0 run to put CUAA up 24-14.
Keirslynn Lawless scored inside to open the 2nd. Asaria Turman made a jumper from the right side and Emily McCalla drove for a layup. Samantha Dorn added two more 3-pointers and Izzy Hadley drove to the basket. A triple from Julia Hirt topped off an 18-0 run for the Cardinals. Asaria Turman and Monae Palmer added baskets before the half, putting CUAA up 46-22.
Monae Palmer hit a deep jumpshot to start the 3rd. The Cardinals continued to convert on the fast break with Taylor Leatherman and Izzy Hadley scoring. Monae Palmer added a layup and Concordia took a 59-33 lead after the 3rd.
Taylor Leatherman hit a 3-pointer in the 4th. Keirslynn Lawless made two free throws and Jess Andrew scored her first career basket as a Cardinal. Concordia was able to give their bench players some key playing time and the team secured the 66-49 win as time expired.
Concordia will head on the road to Aquinas next Wednesday, December 7 at 5:30pm.
