Women's Basketball overpowers UM-Dearborn 72-43

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted UM-Dearborn for a Saturday afternoon WHAC contest.  The Cardinals turned in a solid outing and cruised to a 72-43 victory.

Samantha Dorn led the team with 19 points.  Taylor Leatherman was second with 17 points along with a team-high 17 rebounds.  Izzy Viau was in double figures with 10 points.

 

Samantha Dorn opened the scoring with a layup and a 3-pointer.  Taylor Leatherman drained two free throws and both Izzy Viau and Leatherman converted layups.  Zaria Mitchner made two free throws and the Cardinals got baskets from Leatherman and Dorn.  Keirslynn Lawless converted a pair of inside baskets and Emily McCalla made 3 free throws down the stretch.  CUAA led 27-10 after the 1st.

Emily McCalla opened the scoring in the 2nd with a free throw.  Izzy Viau hit a triple and Taylor Leatherman made a layup.  Zaria Mitchner drained two free throws and the game settled into a defensive battle for the rest of the quarter.  A late triple from Ellie Kallner gave CUAA a 38-22 halftime advantage.

 

Samantha Dorn opened the 3rd with a 3-pointer.  Taylor Leatherman scored from behind the arc and Dorn paced the offense with a layup, free throws, and a triple.  Izzy Viau made a steal leading to a layup and Taylor Leatherman also scored.  Free throws from Ellie Kallner put CUAA ahead 57-34 after the 3rd.

Samantha Dorn made two free throws to open the 4thIzzy Viau made a 3-pointer and a block while Taylor Leatherman added free throws.  Asaria Turman converted free throws after being fouled inside and Jess Andrew drove for a layup.  Keirslynn Lawless used a shifty move to score in the paint and Braylynn Haines banked in her first career basket.  CUAA claimed the 72-43 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will travel to Lawrence Tech next Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
