Women's Hockey competes in Missouri Classic

The woman's hockey team traveled down to Missouri for a showcase over Halloween weekend.

 

The Cardinals faced Maryville to open the weekend on Friday evening. Starting the first period Maryville came out shooting. They scored three goals within the first five minutes to gain the lead. Concordia went scoreless in the first period. The second period was much the same. Maryville scored two goals with in the first two minutes. Concordia had a few good looks but couldn't put the puck in the net. Maryville scored one more goal right before the buzzer to end the second period making the score 6-0. As the third period began Concordia refused to give up. They had two power plays but again were unable to capitalizes on the opportunities. On the other side of the ice Maryville was having no problem finding the back of the net. Maryville capitalized on two power plays to grow their lead. Maryville also scored one goal in regular play during the third period leaving the ending score of 9-0. 

 

Saturday's game for the Cardinals was a completely different story. The Cardinals played some stellar defense against the Lindenwood Lions. The first period saw both teams scoreless. Lindenwood came out firing for the second period, scoring a goal within the first minute. The Cardinals fought back though keeping Lindenwood to just one goal. As the second period started off the Cardinal's looked to capitalize on a powerplay. Erika Hansen gave Grace Dodgson the puck. Dodgson dangle around the Lindenwood defense and fired the puck in the back of the net for the Cardinal's first score all weekend. Fighting hard the Cardinals looked to take the lead, but another score from Lindenwood would end the game 2-1.

 

Sunday morning the Cardinal's played their last game of the show looking for revenge as they took on Maryville for the second time in the showcase. The Cardinals fought hard keeping Maryville to one goal in the first period. Stepping on to the ice for the second period, Maryville scored twice against the Cardinal's leaving the score 3-0. The third period started the same as Maryville scored three more goals to end the game. The final score being 6-0.

 

The Cardinals will be back in action this weekend for a home and home series with Michigan State University.
