(Chelsea, MI) – Concordia women's hockey hosted the University of Michigan for a Sunday afternoon contest. The Cardinals played tough and forced overtime with a third-period goal, but the Wolverines claimed a 2-1 win in extra time.
Amanda Crundwell recorded 32 saves for Concordia in net. Mallory Collins won the opening faceoff for the Cardinals. Emma Shore notched the first shot on goal and Dakota Harmon had a solid scoring chance early on. The Wolverines got on the board first with a goal just over 6 minutes into the period. Both teams killed off penalties in the period and the score remained 1-0.
Mallory Collins won the first faceoff in the second period. The Cardinals received a powerplay opportunity in the period but were not able to convert. Sara Kaczmarek had the team's first shot on goal in the period and both teams traded chances. CUAA still trailed 1-0 after the 2nd.
Grace Dodgson took the first shot on goal in the third period. The Cardinals continued to attack and finally tied the game on the powerplay. Makayla Steinmetz sent a centering feed to Emma Shore who buried the marker in front of the net. Concordia had a powerplay chance starting in the final minute of play, but the game headed to overtime tied 1-1.
Mallory Collins won the opening faceoff in overtime. The Cardinals continued to work their powerplay offense with Grace Dodgson taking a shot on goal. While both teams traded chances, the Wolverines were able to convert in the final minute of overtime to finish the game.
Concordia will remain at home next Sunday, December 11 to host Rhode Island at 5pm.
