Women's Hockey drops matchup with Lakers

(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) - Concordia Women's Hockey was back in action Saturday afternoon for a rematch with the Lake Superior State Lakers. The Cardinals would jump out to a 2-1 lead early in the contest, but would eventually fall 5-3.

 

Alana Mortimer started in net for the Cardinals, making 25 saves in the loss.

 

Lake Superior State would once again open the up the scoring early in the 1st period, but the Cardinals would respond just as they did yesterday, with Emma Shore converting on a powerplay goal off an assist by Grace Dodgson. The sides would go into break even at 1 apiece. 

 

Concordia opened the middle frame with another score, this time off the stick of Skylar Croft, with assists from Dakota Harmon and Grace Dodgson to go up 2-1 in the contest. Lake Superior State responded with a pair of quick goals during a 16 shot period to take the lead back heading into the final intermission.

 

After half of a third period without goals, the Lakers scored another pair of goals to extend their advantage to 5-2 with 7:54 to go in the final frame. CUAA responded one final time with 23 seconds to go, as Grace Dodgson scored to cut the deficit to 2 goals as the clock expired. Sara Kaczmarek recorded a helper on the score.

 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action Friday, Feburary 3rd when they host the Davenport Panthers. Puck drop is set for 8pm at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea, MI.
