Women's soccer falls to NCAA DII Northwood 5-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer played their first game in over 2 weeks when they returned home to face NCAA Division II Northwood University. The Cardinals came in with a 3-2 overall record while the Timberwolves entered 3-1-1. Northwood was able to slowly pull away from CUAA, handing Concordia a 5-1 loss in the game.

The Cardinals attacked the net early with a shot from Sophia Bell (SO/Ofxord, MI) and a header by Sierra Tischer (FR/West Bloomfield, MI). Goalkeeper Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI) was active early in the game, making 6 of her career-high 16 saves in the first 14 minutes of the game. Northwood finally broke through the Concordia defense, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals continued to battle with Kendra Lewis (FR/Waterford, MI) taking a promising free kick, but the team trailed 2-0 at halftime.

Anna Roman continued to make several key saves in net, but Northwood added three more goals to take a 5-0 lead. The Cardinals were able to break the shutout with a goal in the 80th minute. Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) tapped a ball to Megan Starkey (FR/Macomb, MI) on the left side of the net, and Starkey buried a shot to the right for her 2nd goal of the season. Northwood would hold on to secure the 5-1 win.

The Cardinals will return to WHAC conference play with another home game on Saturday, September 28 against Cornerstone. The game will begin at 12pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
