Women's Soccer loses WHAC opener to #17 Aquinas

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer opened up their WHAC conference schedule on Saturday at Ferry Field against 17th-ranked Aquinas. The Cardinals kept the game tight in the first half, but the Saints would eventually pull away with a 7-0 victory.

The Aquinas Saints got out to a fast start in the opening half of play, firing a total of 16 shots, including 9 on target in the opening 45 minutes of play. The Saints would sneak a goal past Concordia in the 21st minute, but starting Cardinal goaltender Hayley Jacobson remained strong early in the contest, picking up 8 saves in the first half.

Kendra Lewis gave the Cardinals a shot at tying the contest late in the first frame, as her corner attempt curved towards the goal and eventually went off the Saints' crossbar before being cleared away.

Aquinas picked up another score in the 50th minute to double their lead over Concordia early in the 2nd half. After more pressure, the Saints fired a pair of goals into the net in the 71st and 72nd minute to put the contest out of reach.

CUAA would threaten late in the matchup, as after a string of nice passes by the Cards, Isabel Stropich would take a shot from long range in the 78th minute and put it on frame, forcing a save from the Saints keeper. Aquinas added a goal in the 82nd and two in the final minute of play to finish the matchup with a 7-0 advantage.

Concordia will hit the road for a pair of away WHAC matchups next week, starting with a 7pm game in Fort Wayne, IN against Indiana Tech on September 28th.
