Women's Tennis bows out of WHAC Tournament; defeats Grace Christian in season finale

(Grand Rapids, MI) The Concordia Women's Tennis team rounded out their season with the WHAC Tournament Friday and a non-conference matchup at Grace Christian on Saturday. The team went into the quarterfinals as the seventh seed, slated to face second seeded Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles won the match 4-0. On Saturday it was the Cardinals who would come out on top, besting the Tigers 5-4.

 

Cornerstone 4 - Concordia 0

Cornerstone won the doubles point with 6-0 victories in both #1 and #3 Doubles. Hollie Johnson, Payton Woodruff, and Katie Vivaqua all fell in their singles matches (6-0, 6-0).

 

The Golden Eagles would advance to the semifinals where they would fall to UNOH. Indiana Tech took home the Championship with a 4-0 win over UNOH in the finals.

 

Concordia 5 - Grace Christian 4

The #1 Doubles pairing of Hollie Johnson and Jadyn Hackmann won their match 10-7 with Elle Fritcha and Natalie Waske winning 8-3 in #2 Doubles to give the Cardinals two points early. Elle Fritcha and Hollie Johnson won their respective #1 and #2 Singles matches both by the score of (6-2, 6-2). At #3 Singles, Jadyn Hackmann narrowly fell in both of her sets by two games. Natalie Waske won convincingly at #4 Singles (6-1, 6-0). Payton Woodruff dropped her #5 Singles match and Jada Guinn pushed the #6 Singles match into a tiebreaker before ultimately falling (4-6, 6-3, 6-10).

 

 

Anna Leeper and Natalie Waske were named to the All-Academic Team for meeting the WHAC requirements of a junior academic status while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25.

 

Elle Fritcha was named the Cardinals recipient of the WHAC Champions of Character. This award is given to a representative from each participating institution that displays the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
