Women's Tennis falls in Season Opening Doubleheader

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Tennis team opened up their Fall 2022 season on Saturday afternoon traveling down to Manchester, IN for a doubleheader against Franklin College and Manchester University. 

 

Franklin 5, Concordia 2

 

Elle Fritcha and Anna Leeper were able to pick up the win in a close #1 doubles as they took the 9-7 win. The #2 and #3 doubles did not end up going the Cardinal's way as the Grizzles took the Doubles point. Jadyn Hackmann and Hollie Johnson fell 8-1 in the #2 match, while Payton Woodruff and Jorja Vartoogian fell 8-0 in the #3 match.

 

Heading into the singles matches Concordia was able to pick up two wins in the #1 and #3 spots. Elle Fritcha once again picked up two 6-1 wins, while Hollie Johnson fought a tough three-set win picking up wins in the second and third set by scores of 6-0 and 10-6 respectively. The other singles matches saw Jadyn Hackmann fall 2-0, Anna Leeper falls in a close match losing 6-4 in both sets, while Payton Woodruff and Jada Guinn both fell 2-0 as well. 

 

Manchester 6, Concordia 1

 

In their second match of the day the Cardinals were able to pick up a win in both the doubles and singles matches. The doubles win saw Hollie Johnson and Jorja Vartoogian pick up an 8-3 win, while the singles win came from Anna Leeper who won 6-3 and 6-2 in her sets. 

 

Elle Fritcha and Anna Leeper fell in the #1 doubles 8-3, while Payton Woodruff and Jada Guinn fell at #2 doubles 8-0. Turning over to the singles matches Elle Fritcha fell in both sets by a score of 6-4. Jada Hackmann picked up three games in a 2-0 loss, while Hollie Johnson fell 2-0 as well picking up 5 games. Payton Woodruff would see her match go to three sets as she pick up the first set winning 6-2 but then fell in the preceding two sets. The final match of the day saw Jada Guinn fall in a close first set 7-5 but fell 6-1 in the final set.

 

The team will be back out onto the courts on Wednesday as they will play at the Racquet Club of Ann Arbor with matches beginning at 3 PM.
