Cardinals earn two Second Team All-Conference Honors

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Following the conclusion of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday evening the WHAC released their 2022 postseason awards and two different Cardinals were honored by being placed on the second team as Gabriela Porter and Julia Hirt were named to the teams. 

 

 

Porter, a graduate student from Quincy, Michigan, earned a spot on the second team after finishing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a total time of 12:35.49. Porter will race this upcoming week at the NCCAA Championships as she enters with the 9th best time.

 

 

Hirt, a freshman from Hartland, Wisconsin, placed second at the WHAC Championships last week after throwing a school record of 40.32 meters, earning herself a second-team mention. Hirt will also be competing at the NCCAA Championships, entering with the seventh-best throw. 

 

Sarah Mitchell and Andrew Wiemer were also recognized as the team's WHAC Champion of Character. The freshman and junior respectively were honored for their commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

 

Head Coach Andrew Tirmenstein was the Women's Track and Field Champions of Character Coach. 

 

Also, on Saturday WHAC All-Academic teams were named which involves being a junior in Academic standing and having a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Ten Cardinals were named Academic All-Conference including Emily Belinsky, Zachary Belinsky, Theodore Eising, Megan Espinoza, Payton Lovins, Gabriela Porter, Lydia Schroeder, Sierra Stechbar, Elizabeth Trent, and Andrew Wiemer.
