Volleyball falls at Cornerstone

(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Cornerstone on Wednesday evening for a WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals entered 6-7 overall (2-1 WHAC) on the year while the Golden Eagles came in 8-8 (3-0 WHAC).  CUAA fought hard, but they found themselves up against a tough team and fell in straight sets.

 

Breann June led Concordia with 6 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 15 assists.  McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 17 digs.  Madalyn Lisman led the team with 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CU 25, CUAA 14

Breann June started off the game with a kill and an ace for the Cardinals.  Concordia kept the game close early with kills from Tara Drinane and Kayla Peters, but Cornerstone began to pull away.  Madalyn Lisman made a solo block and then combined on one with Peters, but Cornerstone took set 1.

 

Set 2 – CU 25, CUAA 17

Kayla Peters had the first kill for Concordia in set 2.  The Cardinals answered a 6-0 run by Cornerstone with 3 unanswered points, capitalizing on errors and getting an ace from Breann JuneEllen Stolz made a kill and then combined with Madalyn Lisman for a block as Concordia looked to keep pace down the stretch.  However, Cornerstone claimed a 25-17 win in set 2.

 

Set 3 – CU 25, CUAA 9

Kaitlin Veihl made the first Cardinal kill in set 3. Breann June and Kayla Peters both made two early kills as Concordia looked to extend the match.  Kaitlin Veihl added a kill later in the set, but Cornerstone pulled away to claim the game in straight sets.

 

Concordia will return home on Friday, September 24 to host UM-Dearborn.  The game will start at 7pm.
