Cardinals fight hard, drop match to Crusaders

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals volleyball team were home for the back end of a two-game homestand as they faced off against the Crusaders of Madonna University. Concordia entered today's contest with a 7-8 record and a 3-2 record in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders entered with a 13-3 record and a 5-0 record in WHAC play. 

 

The Cardinals were led in the match by Kayla Peters and Breann June with 12 and 7 kills respectively, while Austin recorded 26 assists. On the defensive end, McKenzie Peters and Kayla Peters tallied 25 and 15 digs respectively. 



Set 1 - MU 25, CUAA 22

 

After Madonna started out with the first five points of the set the Cardinals were able to storm back into the match scoring six straight points as Kaitlin Veihl helped the Cards with three kills. Madonna would go on and take a 14-8 lead. Kayla Peters and Breann June would aid CUAA in mounting a comeback and threaten to take the first set as they would even the score up at 22 before the Crusaders would get the final three points to claim set one. 



Set 2 - MU 25, CUAA 15

 

The Crusaders started the second set with a big 16-5 lead before the Cards scored five of the next seven points with kills coming from Tara Drinane and Breann June. CUAA would attempt to mount a comeback, with Kayla Peters and Breann June recording kills, but the Madonna attack would be too strong to finish out the set at 25-15. 



Set 3 - MU 25, CUAA 17

 

In the third set, the Crusaders would come out strong once again as they went up 15-4 in the set. Kayla Peters, Madalyn Lisman, and Kaitlin Veihl would all record kills as part of the final 12 Cardinal points in the match. 

 

The Cardinals will return to the court on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 PM when the Cardinals will travel to Fort Wayne, IN to go up against the Warriors of Indiana Tech University.
