Volleyball tops Lourdes in straight sets

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Lourdes on Friday evening for a WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals came in 7-10 overall (3-4 WHAC) while the Gray Wolves entered 5-7 on the year (3-4 WHAC).  CUAA played well and evened their WHAC conference record with a solid victory in straight sets.

 

Kayla Peters led the team with 14 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 36 assists.  Mckenzie Peters led the back end with 17 digs.  Kaitlin Veihl led the Cardinals with 5 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, LU 19

Kaitlin Veihl recorded Concordia's first kill of the game.  A 6-0 run propelled the Cardinals to a 7-3 lead with Madalyn Lisman and Tara Drinane combining for a block.  Lisman and Breann June added a combined block and Concordia continued to stay in the lead.  Kayla Peters notched the winning kill in set 1.

 

Set 2 – CUAA 25, LU 17

Kayla Peters had the first kill in set 2, starting a 3-0 run.  Madalyn Lisman notched two early kills as the Cardinals slowly built up their lead.  Kaitlin Veihl notched a pair of kills early in the set and also teamed up with Abigail Austin for a block.  An attack error by Lourdes closed out set 2 with a win for Concordia.

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25, LU 19

Kaitlin Veihl had the first kill in set 3.  Kayla Peters made multiple kills early in the game, leading to a 9-9 tie.  After Lourdes pulled ahead 12-9, CUAA responded on a 5-0 run with Kaitlin Veihl adding an ace.  Breann June added back-to-back kills as the Cardinals looked to close out the game.  Kayla Peters finished the contest with two consecutive kills to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will return to action on Wednesday, October 6 when they travel to UNOH at 7pm.
