Volleyball makes it five straight with 3-1 win over Lawrence Tech

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals volleyball team headed over to Southfield, MI for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University on Saturday afternoon which saw the Cardinals come out with a 3-1 win while winning their fifth-straight game.

 

Concordia came into the game with an 11-10 record overall and a 7-4 WHAC record. While Lawrence Tech had a 2-9 record both overall and in the conference.

 

Throughout the match both Kayla Peters and Kaitlin Veihl came away with 12 kills to lead CUAA. Abigail Austin was the leading assister with 35 on the afternoon and McKenzie Peters was able to record 17 digs on the day. Madalyn Lisman added in five blocks on the day. 

 

Set 1 - CUAA 25, LTU 22

 

LTU jumped out to an early 8-4 lead before the Cards would tie it up with a couple of aces from Korie Fowler. A quick 6-3 run from Concordia they would take advantage of a couple of bad sets by the Blue Devils would give Concordia the 14-11 advantage. The rest of the set saw the teams battle back and forth, and a late 8-3 run gave the Cardinals the set. 

 

Set 2 - CUAA 25, LTU 20

 

CUAA came out hot to start the second set as they led 14-7. Holding off a LTU comeback key kills from Kayla Peters, Tara Drinane and Kaitlin Veihl would give the Cards set 2.

 

Set 3 - LTU 25, CUAA 23

 

The Blue Devils would take command of the third set quickly as they soared out to an 18-9 lead. Attempting to fight back in the set the Cardinals would use a kill from Claudia Grepke and then take advantage of a couple LTU missteps in order to pull with two for the set, but ultimately fell overall in the set.

 

Set 4 - CUAA 25, LTU 14

 

Set four was all Concordia as they would just overpower Lawrence Tech and be able to create a huge 20-11 lead. Kills from Claudia Grepke and Kaitlin Veihl once again ended the set and gave the Cardinals the match win. 

 

The Cardinals are staying on the road as they will travel to WHAC opponent Madonna University on Friday October 22 with first serve at 7pm.
