Volleyball falls to Madonna in straight sets

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia volleyball went on the road to face Madonna on Friday evening in WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals came in 12-10 overall (8-4 WHAC) while the Crusaders entered 20-5 overall (12-2 WHAC).  CUAA fought hard but found themselves up against a tough opponent and fell in straight sets.

 

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 8 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 15 assists.  Kayla Peters, Abigail Austin, and Korie Fowler all tied for the lead with 10 digs apiece.  Breann June and Kaitlin Veihl tied for first with 3 blocks each.

 

Set 1 – MU 25, CUAA 15

Kaitlin Veihl notched Concordia's first kill of the game.  Kayla Peters made two early kills and Jessalyn Peavyhouse put the Cardinals up 4-3.  While Peters and Kaitlin Veihl recorded service aces down the stretch, Madonna came away with a 25-15 win in set one.

 

Set 2 – MU 25, CUAA 17

Korie Fowler had the first Cardinal kill in set 2.  Kaitlin Veihl recorded a pair of kills early in the set and Fowler added a service ace.  Kayla Peters chipped in a pair of kills and an ace, but Madonna took set two by a score of 25-17.

 

Set 3 – MU 25, CUAA 6

Tara Drinane had the first Concordia kill in set 3, tying the score 3-3.  Drinane added another kill in the set, but Madonna's offense took control and closed out the game with a 25-6 set three win.

 

Concordia will return to action tomorrow when they travel to UM-Dearborn for a 1pm game.
