Volleyball competes in day two of Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament
(Upland IN) – Concordia volleyball competed on day 2 of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament on Saturday.  The Cardinals faced off against St. Thomas and IU-Kokomo on the day. Claudia Grepke was named to the All-Tournament Team following the event. 

 

Game 1 - STU 3, CUAA 0 

Claudia Grepke led the Cardinals with 9 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 17 assists.  Kayla Peters secured the back end with 18 digs. 

 

Set 1 – STU 25, CUAA 20 

Kayla Peters had the first Concordia kill in set 1.  Breann June and Ella Lucas notched service aces as the Cardinals held a 17-14 lead late in the set.  However, STU closed the set on an 11-3 run to take set 1. 

 

Set 2 – STU 25, CUAA 15 

Hannah Duchene made the Cardinals' first kill in set 2.  Claudia Grepke added 2 early kills, but STU began to pull away in the middle.  Concordia made a late 3-0 run but STU took set 2. 

 

Set 3 – STU 25, CUAA 15 

Claudia Grepke had the first Concordia kill in set 3.  Megan Neumann notched 2 kills early in the set and Madeline Vnuk made back-to-back aces.  However, STU was able to secure set 3 to close the game. 

 

 

Game 2 – IU-K 3, CUAA 0 

Claudia Grepke led the team with 8 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 13 assists.  McKenzie Peters led the back end with 14 digs. 

 

Set 1 – IU-K 25, CUAA 17 

Breann June made an early ace in set 1.  The Cardinals stayed within a few points with Madalyn Lisman and Madeline Vnuk making a combined block.  IU-Kokomo closed out the set with a 4-0 run to take set 1. 

 

Set 2 – IU-K 25, CUAA 21 

Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill in set 2.  Madalyn Lisman made 2 early kills and Breann June added an ace.  The Cardinals took the set down to the wire with a Claudia Grepke kill cutting the deficit to 23-21, but IU-Kokomo finished off set 2. 

 

Set 3 – IU-K 25, CUAA 17 

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first Concordia kill in set 3.  Claudia Grepke made a kill and then combined with Madalyn Lisman for a block.  Abigail Austin and Paige Staton added aces down the stretch but IU-Kokomo finished the game with a set 3 win. 

 

Concordia will begin WHAC play next with a game at Lourdes on September 7 at 7pm.
