Volleyball falls to Lawrence Tech

(Southfield, MI) – Concordia volleyball played their second game in a row on Saturday with a WHAC road game at Lawrence Tech. The Cardinals aimed to build off their win last night against UNOH while the Blue Devils looked to bounce back from a loss. CUAA battled hard and forced an extended third set, but Lawrence Tech claimed the sweep.

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 13 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 31 assists and 10 digs. Jessalyn Peavyhouse led the team with 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – LTU 25, CUAA 23

Breann June and Jessalyn Peavyhouse combined for a block to open the game. The duo teamed up for another block early on and Peavyhouse worked with Madeline Vnuk for her third block. Kayla Peters made a kill for a 20-18 lead, but LTU began to make a comeback. The Cardinals forced a long rally on the last point but LTU took set one 25-23.

 

Set 2 – LTU 25, CUAA 15

Breann June started set 2 with a kill. Kayla Peters made a strong early kill and continued to make hard hits for Cardinal points. However, Lawrence Tech was able to take a double-digit lead later in the set and claimed a 25-15 win in set 2.

 

Set 3 – LTU 32, CUAA 30

Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill in set 3. The lead continued to shift with Paige Staton making an ace for a 7-7 tie. Breann June made 3 kills midway through the set and Kayla Peters continued to add strong hits.

Down 24-22, the Cardinals made a 3-0 run starting with an Abigail Austin kill. The set continued to be extended as Concordia would take a 1-point lead and the Blue Devils would tie it again. Abigail Austin put CUAA up 30-29, but LTU took the last 3 points to close the game.

 

Concordia will return home this Wednesday, September 21 to host UM-Dearborn at 7pm.
