Volleyball drops home contest to UM-Dearborn

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted UM-Dearborn in a WHAC conference matchup on Wednesday night. The Cardinals started fast with a win in set 1, but the Wolverines took the last three sets to come away with the win.

Kayla Peters led the offense with 12 kills. Abigail Austin made a team-high 18 assists. McKenzie Peters led the back end with 17 digs. Hannah Duchene had 5 blocks to lead the effort at the net.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, UMD 21

Kayla Peters started set 1 with a kill. Madalyn Lisman added 2 early kills and later combined with Hannah Duchene on a block. Kayla Peters recorded a go-ahead kill as part of a 4-0 run that put CUAA ahead 17-14. Back-to-back kills from Jessalyn Peavyhouse late in the set helped the Cardinals pull ahead for good in a 25-21 win.

 

Set 2 – UMD 25, CUAA 23

Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill in set 2. Madeline Vnuk notched an ace to tie the game 6-6 and the set continued to be closely contested. After falling behind 20-15, the Cardinals rallied to trail just 24-23 after a Kayla Peters kill. However, UMD took the last point to win set 2.

 

Set 3 – UMD 25, CUAA 15

Kayla Peters had the first Concordia kill in set 3. Hannah Duchene added a kill and teamed up with Peters for an early block. Breann June added a pair of kills midway through the set, but UM-Dearborn began to pull away. Hannah Duchene and Kayla Peters combined for another block but CUAA fell 25-15.

 

Set 4 – UMD 25, CUAA 18

Breann June started set 4 with a kill. UM-Dearborn jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but the Cardinals slowly fought back with aces from McKenzie Peters and Madeline Vnuk. Trailing 24-14, CUAA made a 4-0 run with Breann June making a kill, set, and combined block with Jessalyn Peavyhouse. However, UM-Dearborn got the final point to close the game.

 

Concordia will be back in action this Saturday, September 24 when they travel to rival Siena Heights at 1pm.
