Volleyball falls at home to Madonna

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted Madonna for a rivalry matchup on Wednesday night. The Cardinals looked to sweep the season series after downing the Crusaders on the road, but Madonna was able to even the series with a sweep.

 

Claudia Grepke led the team with 10 kills. Madeline Vnuk had a team-high 23 assists. McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 23 digs. Breann June and Jessalyn Peavyhouse tied for first with 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – MU 25, CUAA 20

Madeline Vnuk had the first kill of the game. Claudia Grepke added two kills as the lead shifted back and forth early. An ace from Breann June tied the set 15-15. Claudia Grepke capped a 3-0 run to pull the team within a point down 20-19, but Madonna used a 5-1 run to close set 1.

 

Set 2 – MU 25, CUAA 18

Claudia Grepke made the first Cardinal kill in set 2. After trailing 8-2, CUAA made a 4-0 run capped by an Abigail Austin ace. Madalyn Lisman teamed up with Breann June for a block and the Cardinals stayed within a few points. Kayla Peters added two late kills but Madonna claimed set 2.

 

Set 3 – MU 25, CUAA 11

Madeline Vnuk and Jessalyn Peavyhouse combined for an early block and Vnuk added a service ace. Madonna responded with an 11-0 run which was ended by a Claudia Grepke kill. Jessalyn Peavyhouse recorded an ace and Grepke added several more kills, but Madonna finished the match in set 3.

 

Concordia will remain at home this Friday to host Aquinas at 7pm.
