Volleyball wins regular season finale at Rochester in straight sets

(Rochester Hills, MI) The Concordia Volleyball team concluded their regular season with a match at Rochester Saturday. The Cardinals went into the game knowing a win would secure a spot for them in the WHAC playoffs. Concordia came out strong, defeating the Warriors in straight sets, and earning the eighth seed in the conference tournament.

 

Abigail Austin surpassed 2,000 career assists with 24 on the day. Claudia Grepke and Kayla Peters both reached double digit kills with 12 and 11 respectively. McKenzie Peters paced the team with 22 digs followed by Breann June with 16.

 

 

Set 1 – Rochester 20 - Concordia 25

The first set was a back-and-forth affair until the Cardinals scored four straight forcing a Rochester timeout. The Cardinals continued to go on for a 6-2 run and an 8-point lead. The Warriors were able to bring it back within four, but Concordia was able to win the set in the end.

 

Set 2 – Rochester 21 - Concordia 25

Rochester had a 6-point lead out of the gates in the second, but the Cards scored 8 straight in large part to two aces from Breann June and a pair of kills from Tara Drinane. The Cardinals closed out the set with four straight points to win their second set of the game.

 

Set 3 – Rochester 14 - Concordia 25

The Cardinals jumped out to a 7-point advantage at the start of the third with multiple kills from June. Claudia Grepke and Kayla Peters helped maintain and grow the lead with kills of their own. Once again, the Cardinals finished of the set with four straight to secure the victory and a spot in the WHAC Playoffs.

 

 

After securing the eighth seed in the WHAC Tournament, the Cardinals are set to face top seeded Cornerstone. The game will take place at Cornerstone, Wednesday November 9th.
