Volleyball falls to Cornerstone in WHAC Quarterfinals

 (Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia volleyball traveled to #1 seed Cornerstone on Wednesday to compete in the first round of the WHAC tournament.  The Cardinals fought hard looking to pull off the upset, but the Golden Eagles took the match in straight sets.

Kayla Peters led the team with 9 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 12 assists.  McKenzie Peters led the back end with 20 digs.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse had a team-leading 5 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CU 25, CUAA 13

Tara Drinane had Concordia's first kill.  The Cardinals kept it close early with a block by Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Kayla Peters.  Peters continued to add kills along with one from Drinane, but Cornerstone slowly built their lead and took set 1.

 

Set 2 – CU 25, CUAA 23

Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Madeline Vnuk combined for a block early in set 2.  The Cardinals fought their way to an 11-7 lead with two kills from Claudia Grepke and an ace by Kayla PetersJessalyn Peavyhouse and Tara Drinane teamed up for a block, and the Cardinals fought their way to a 23-22 lead.  However, Cornerstone took the last 3 points to close set 2.

 

Set 3 – CU 25, CUAA 11

Tara Drinane started set 3 with a kill.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse made a solo block and Claudia Grepke notched an early kill.  While Kayla Peters had 2 kills down the stretch, Cornerstone was able to close the game in set 3.
