Men's Hockey drops series to 20th-ranked Wolverines

(Dearborn, MI) - The Concordia Men's Hockey hit the road to for their first away contest of the year on Saturday night, looking for revenge against the 20th-ranked UM-Dearborn Wolverines. Despite several early chances, the Cardinals could not get on the board, as the Wolverines would eventually pull off a 4-0 victory to take the weekend series.

The Cardinals came out the gate flying, earning 3 powerplays in the opening frame and outshooting UM-Dearborn 11-9 in the first period. Despite CUAA's onslaught of opportunities, the Wolverines would get on the board first in the period and would hold that 1-0 advantage all the way into the intermission.

The Wolverines opened the scoring less than 7 seconds into the second period, and while the Cardinals were able to earn another powerplay, they could not convert in a back-and-forth period that included 7 shots on goal from each side. UM-Dearborn would get on their first (of four) powerplay of the contest just over halfway into the period and convert on that chance, extending their lead to 3 before the second intermission.

UM-Dearborn once again struck in the 3rd period, scoring at the 11:35 mark to make it a 4-0 game. Both sides would get other chances during the frame, including both Derek Hebner and a UMD skater hitting the post during the final period of play, but the scoreline would remain firm, sealing a 4-0 win for the Wolverines.

Anthony Seykora started the game in goal, making 22 saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Cardinals will return to the ice next Friday, January 13th, when they open another WHAC series on the road, this time taking on the #9 Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Puck drop is set for 8pm at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena in Farmington Hills, MI.
