Cardinals extend win streak to 12 games in non-conference sweep over Rochester

After sweeping Cleary on Saturday to begin WHAC play, the Cardinals quickly returned to the diamond hosting Rochester University. The double header was played as a non-conference matchup with both games consisting of seven innings. The Cardinals extended their win streak to 12 games using fifteen runs in two games to sweep the Warriors. The Cardinals cruised in the first game, 9-1 and completed the series 6-3 in the second game.

 

Game 1 CUAA 9, RU 1

The Cardinals used the long ball on Saturday to defeat Cleary but maximized the small ball on Sunday. The Cardinals put eight runs on the board in the first two innings taking advantage of several Warriors errors. Adam Purdy took a deep shot to deep right center clearing the bases to score Dylan Steinke, Chris Lowe, and Victor Diaz. Preston Sherman also scored an unearned run in the first inning.

After a basis loaded walk in the second inning by Calvin Syrjala increased the lead to 7-0, Purdy tacked on two more runs with an RBI single in the second inning as well. Jordan Sherman knocked a single to left field scoring Chris Lowe for the Cardinals ninth run.  Rochester scored a run in the sixth inning but never threatened.

Jacob Henry earned the start for the Cardinals and earned the win. Henry went five strong innings and recorded seven strikeouts. He scattered four hits and only walked one batter. Ryan Abenth relieved Henry in the sixth and struck out two to preserve the win.

 

Game 1 CUAA 6, RU 3

The Cardinals aggressiveness continued in game two with three quick runs. A double by Chris Lowe scored Adam Purdy to give the Cardinals their first run. Jordan Sherman eventually scored Chris Lowe to make it 2-0 in the first inning. Vann Acker scored Ryan Kotecki in the second inning to extend the Cardinals lead, 3-0. The Warriors got a run by on  Cardinals error in the third inning.

The Cardinals quick responded with two runs in the fifth to extend the lead, 5-1. Purdy and Lowe once again crossed home plate for the Cardinals.

The Warriors would not go away quietly as they added two runs in the sixth inning. Logan Fleming pitched out of a jam to preserve the Cardinals win earning his second save of the season.

Timothy Pomaville earned his third win for the Cardinals as the starter. He went three innings and struck out four. Brendan Lyons and Elijah Abenth tag teamed reliever duties for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will return to action hosting Point Park in a non-conference double header.
