Watts and Rumsey earn NAIA All-America Honorable Mention

(Ann Arbor, MI) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2021 Competitive Cheer All-America teams on Monday and Fred Watts and Hannah Rumsey have been named NAIA All-America Honorable Mention. This is the first time Rumsey has earned All-America honors and the third time Fred received All-America honors. Watts was named an All-American recipient last year and Honorable Mention the year before.

To achieve NAIA All-America or Honorable Mention status, student-athletes participated in a tryout at the NAIA National Championship. Officials judge the athletes during the tryout and the All-American teams were determined by the judges' scores which took into account stunts, jumps, and tumbling.

The accolades have been consistent for the Cardinals both individually and as a team this season. The Cardinals finished 7th at the NAIA National Championship and won the WHAC Championship for the third consecutive season. Both Watts and Rumsey were named First Team All-Conference, and Rumsey was named to the All-Academic Team. Watts is also a three-time First Team All-WHAC recipient. Asia Ussery, Hannah Huhn, Laney Roberts, Danyelle Beckesh, and Zoe Genette all earned individual honors at the conference level as well.

Former Cardinal standout Kim Dade was a two-time NAIA All-American honoree in 2016 and 2017 and Ryan Baker joined Dade on the 2017 All-American team as well. Brittany Palmer joined Watts in 2019 as All-America honorable mention.
