Cheer fourth after Preliminary Round at NAIA Championships

(Ypsilanti, MI) - The Concordia cheer team competed in their sixth consecutive NAIA National Championship Friday afternoon at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The team performed their preliminary round routine and are currently sitting fourth heading into the finals on Saturday. The championship event saw fifteen teams participate with a talented and crowded field.

 

The Cardinals earned an automatic bid to the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship after taking first place at the WHAC Championships on Feb 19th.

 

The Cardinals were the fifth team to perform in the preliminary and set the tone high with an 88.57 after just half a point in deductions. The score was Concordia's highest of the season thus far. The only teams ahead of the Cardinals were St. Ambrose (92.63), Xavier (91.83), and Indiana Wesleyan (90.40). Rounding out the top five was Dickinson State closely behind at 88.50.

 

"Today was our best performance to date," said head coach Kate Edge. "They were just focused on executing and doing their skills to the best of their ability. We are excited to get a chance to take the mat one more time together."

 

The Cardinals will be performing in the final round Saturday at 11:50 AM as the fourth-best score from the preliminary round.
