Rauch and DeGayner highlight Concordia’s eleven All-Conference selections

The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League announced their season awards on Monday. Nine Cardinals were recognized by the conference, in eleven total selections, for their outstanding play on the field, while three Cardinals earned First Team honors.

Starting off the Cardinals First Team selections is sophomore transfer Running Back Brandon Stewart. Stewart finished his first season at Concordia with 689 rushing yards (3rd most overall in the MSFA), 7 rushing touchdowns (2nd most overall), and 68.9 rushing yards per game (3rd most overall). Stewart led all Cardinal running backs in rushing yards and yards per game.

Punter Casey Rauch joined his teammate Stewart on the First Team for his second consecutive season. Rauch totaled 49 punts and landed, a conference best, 23 of them inside the opponent's 20 yard line. The junior punter played a key part in flipping field position and momentum.

Rounding out the First Team selections for the Cardinals is Returner Seeger DeGayner. DeGayner showed himself to be a dangerous return man on kickoffs, having 15 returns for 661 yards and 3 touchdowns. He averaged 44.1 yards per kickoff return, which was the best in the NAIA, and helped lead the Cardinals to almost 900 total kick return yards.

Senior Defensive Back Alonzo Johnson was named to the MSFA Mideast Second Team for his efforts in the secondary. Johnson ranked fifth in the conference in interceptions (3) and returned one of these interceptions for a touchdown. He also added 26 solo tackles and 44 total tackles to his ledger.

Casey Rauch also made the Second Team, this time as a Linebacker. The multipurpose defender tied for the team lead in total tackles with 66. He forced a fumble this year and was second on the team with 6 tackles for loss.

Making his second consecutive Second Team as the Left Tackle is Gabe Dowling. Gabe has been a stallworth on the offensive line for Concordia the last three seasons.

Will Dowling also makes his second consecutive appearance on the Second Team as the Right Guard for the Cardinals. Will has been a major addition to the offensive line. Both Dowling brothers have helped the running game to become elite.

Wide Receiver Seeger DeGayner rounds out the Cardinals MSFA Mideast Second Team honorees. As a receiver, DeGayner led the team with 53 receptions and 604 receiving yards, while tying for the team lead with 6 touchdown receptions.

The Cardinals also placed three players on the Honorable Mention Team this year, as Nathan Roehr, Nick Painter, and Treyon Freeman were all honored.

Left Guard Nathan Roehr starts off the Honorable Mention for the Cardinals. Roehr was another important piece along the offensive line that elevated the Cardinals rushing attack this season.

Nick Painter has served as the Cardinals Long Snapper for the past four seasons. His role in helping the special teams unit was crucial, especially in the punting and kicking game.

Treyon Freeman rounds out the Cardinals Honorable Mention recipients for the 2022-23 season. The redshirt senior Defensive Tackle tallied 33 total tackles along with 2.5 sacks. Freeman also had 6 tackles for loss and 3 pass break ups.
