Late rally falls short for Men's Basketball against UNOH

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted UNOH on Wednesday night to continue their WHAC season. The Cardinals looked to close out their season strong with coach Ricky Yahn just one win away from 100 for his career. CUAA nearly erased an 18-point deficit in the second half, but a late comeback effort fell just short in a 67-65 loss.

Colton Ritsema led the team with 17 points. Devyn Jones finished second with 13 points. Kip French and Zac Clark tied for third with 11 points apiece. Devyn Jones and Zac Clark tied for a team-high 5 rebounds.

 

Kip French had Concordia's first basket with a midrange jumper. Colton Ritsema paced the offense early on with a pair of layups and a 3-pointer. Abeal Ayalew made a basket as well but the Cardinals trailed UNOH 22-12 at the midway point of the half.

Mason Canfield cut to the basket and scored and Devyn Jones drained two free throws. Zac Clark got on the scoresheet and Evan Neff converted an "and-1" later on. Clark added a 3-pointer and Devyn Jones made a drive as the Cardinals got closer towards the end of the half. CUAA trailed 36-30 at halftime.

 

Devyn Jones had a layup for the Cardinals' first second-half basket. Kip French made a jumper and a 3-pointer and Colton Ritsema connected from behind the arc as well. After UNOH responded with a 15-0 run another triple from Ritsema put CUAA down 58-43 at the midway point.

Trailing 64-52, two free throws from Kip French started a 9-0 run by the Cardinals. Colton Ritsema added a 3-pointer and French capped the run with 2 more free throws. Matt Kohler made a layup and Devyn Jones drew a foul after a steal, making it a 1-point game with CUAA trailing 66-65.

UNOH split a pair of free throws with 6 seconds remaining, giving the Cardinals a chance. Kip French raced down the court and put up a fadeaway jumpshot which fell just short at the buzzer.

 

Concordia will host UM-Dearborn this Saturday at 3pm to close out their season.
