MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT (RV) CORNERSTONE
(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia men's basketball went on the road to face Cornerstone on Tuesday night for a WHAC tilt. The Golden Eagles entered the game receiving votes in the national poll and lived up to their billing in a 91-42 win.
Zackary Johnson led the team with 9 points. Amari Robinson was second with 7 points. Kip French had a team-high 5 rebounds.
After an 8-0 opening run by Cornerstone, Zackary Johnson knocked down a triple and Devyn Jones hit a jumper. After the Golden Eagles built a 19-5 lead, Johnson and Kip French drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to trim the deficit.
Mason Canfield made a layup and a baseline jumper for the Cardinals. Ethan Young scored inside and Zackary Johnson made his third 3-pointer. Young added another inside basket and Jayden Priddy drove for a layup. CUAA trailed 43-24 at halftime.
Matt Lockhart scored on the fast break in the second half. Nate Brighton added a steal and a layup and Jason Jergens drilled a 3-pointer. Cornerstone continued a solid offensive performance and led 61-31 at the midway point.
Amari Robinson drained two free throws and hit a 3-pointer down the stretch. D'Angelo Stoxstill had a pair of jumpshots in the final minutes as well. Robinson added two more free throws and Cornerstone claimed the 91-42 win as time expired.
Concordia will return home on Wednesday, November 30 to host Lawrence Tech at 7:30pm.
