Men's Basketball comes up short against Spring Arbor

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Men's Basketball team took to the court Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against Spring Arbor. The game saw nine different lead changes, with the Cougars walking away with the 72-70 win.

The Cardinals finished with four players in double digits in Matt Lockhart (18), Devyn Jones (12), Jayden Priddy (10), and Kip French (10).

The Cougars started the game on a 6-0 run, but Concordia was able to claw their way back into the game with triples from Zackary Johnson, Nate Brighton, and Devyn Jones. Both Matt Lockhart and Matt Kohler knocked down threes of their own to stay within striking distance. The Cardinals were able to take their first lead of the game with 7 minutes left in the half when Jayden Priddy converted an old-fashioned three-point play. Spring Arbor reclaimed the lead shortly after until the Cards closed out the half with six straight, taking a one-point lead into the locker room.

Spring Arbor retook the lead on the first possession of the second half and grew the lead to as great as seven. The Cardinals responded with shutdown defense, and eight unanswered points to take the lead. In that run, Colton Ritsema sank a pair of shots from the charity strip, Jayden Priddy completed another and-one situation, and Kip French drained a three to go up by one. The final ten minutes of the game was a back and forth affair with many lead changes. When the Cardinals started to fall behind, Kip French came up with a steal and then a three in the corner to swing momentum. Spring Arbor answered back with a three of their own on the next possession and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Cardinals will be off until after Christmas when they will travel to Great Lakes Christian College on December 28th. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM in Lansing.
