Men's Golf finishes 11th, falls to Cornerstone in match play

(Battle Creek, MI) - The Concordia University Cardinals men's golf team spent the last two days competing at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference preview, which featured the other 11 teams that are in the conference. The tournament featured one round of stroke play followed by three rounds of match play. 

 

The first day of competition saw the teams competing in traditional stroke play that saw the Cards finish the round with a score of 329. Neil Henlein once again led the Crusaders as he finished with a tie for 19th and a score of 78. Dalton Stiegler tallied a score of 80, while Zach Burk, Will Hieber, and Gibson Wilke rounded out the five golfers for Concordia with scores of 87, 85, and 95 respectively. 

 

Lawrence Tech was the team to finish atop the leaderboard as they tallied a team score of 296. Tom Pritchett from UNOH and Thomas Delmas from Lawrence Tech each shot a score of 71 in stroke play to finish atop of the leaderboard. 

 

The remaining play saw the teams broken down into match play in which the Cardinals faced off against Rochester in the match play round and came out with a 3-2 win. In the final match-play round CUAA fell to Cornerstone 4.5-0.5, scoring the half point was Dalton Stiegler.

 

In the first flight, UNOH came out on top with a 3.5-1.5 win over Lawrence Tech. 

 

The Cardinals will have just over a week off before traveling to Sylvania, OH to compete at the second Lourdes Invitational of the fall on Monday, October 11.
