Men's Soccer earns second straight shutout with 4-0 win over Alma

(Alma, MI) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to Alma on Wednesday afternoon to continue their season.  The Cardinals entered 1-0 on the young season while the contest was the Scots' home opener.  CUAA played a strong game and kept a clean sheet with a 4-0 victory.

 

Ryan Webb started in goal for the Cardinals, making 1 save in 29:48 of action.   Concordia started their offensive attack early with Austin Corona taking the first shot with a header in front of the net.  The Cardinals broke through in the 26th minute when Bryce Schaner scored an unassisted goal on the fast break. 

Jose Garcia came in to play goal midway through the half, notching 2 saves in 33:13 in the game.  Bryce Schaner struck again in the 30th minute with a goal on a quick shot with Alexander Valencia drawing the assist.  Concordia's defense continued to be strong and Brody Smith tacked on another goal with a powerful shot in the 35th minute.  CUAA held a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals stayed on the attack in the second half with two corner kicks by Raul ElizondoKyri Wixom came on to play goalie in the 64th minute, picking up a save in the remainder of the game.  Jacari Jackson extended Concordia's lead in the 81st minute, finding a seam and blasting a shot on the left side of the goal.  CUAA held on to pick up their second straight shutout victory with a 4-0 win.

 

Concordia will return to action on Wednesday, September 8 when they travel to Indiana Wesleyan.  The game will begin at 7pm.
