Men's Track and Field competes at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic; Starkey takes home 400m win

(Hillsdale, MI) - The Men's Track and Field team traveled to Hillsdale College for the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic on Saturday, January 28. The team came away with 4 personal records, 6 new collegiate marks

In the shot put, the three Cardinals, Zachary Belinsky, Will Hall, and Scott Smith all threw a personal record. As Belinsky lead the way with a distance of 12.76 meters, then Smith with 11.65 meters, and Hall with 11.33 meters.

Belinsky also led the way in the weight throw with a distance of 13.46 meters. Hall finished second for the Cardinals with a distance of 11.70 meters. Josh Wood finished with a distance of 9.42 meters and Smith could not find the zone.

Ethan Dodson made his collegiate debut in the long jump and finished with a distance of 5.69 meters. Zak Schroeder finished right behind with a distance of 5.57 meters. Schroeder and Dodson also competed in some sprinting events. Dodson competed in the 200-meter dash for the first time collegiately and finished in a time of 24.64 meters. Schroeder also competed and finished in 25.90 seconds. Also competing in the 200 meters were Kash Warren, Noah Starkey, and Elijah Boye. Starkey finished in eighth place with a time of 23.31 seconds. Warren finished in a time of 24.73 and Boye in a time of 25.73. This was also Boye's first collegiate meet.

Schroeder and Starkey went on to compete in the 400. Where Starkey highlighted the day by winning the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.49 seconds. Schroeder finished in 13 place with a time of 57.06.

Starkey, Warren, and Boye all competed in the 60-yard dash to being the day for the sprints. Starkey finished first for the team in 7.32, followed closely by Warren in 7.36 and then Boye in 7.95 seconds.

In distance events, Avery Sanchez competed in the 5k for the first time indoors. Sanchez finished in a time of 18 minutes flat.

Theodore Eising returned back to racing the mile after a while and ended up running a new personal record of 4:57.

Luke Bentz returned to competition and competed in the 800 meters. Bentz finished in a time of 2:11.

Adam Fisch made his debut in the 3k and finished in a time of 10:46.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, February 4 at Trine University for the Mrs. G Invitational.
