Lewis and McAlinden to NAIA All-American teams

(Kansas City, MO) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced their All-American teams on Wednesday afternoon and two Cardinals were honored with Shannon McAlinden was named a Second-Team All-American while Payton Lewis was named to the Honorable Mention list. 

 

 

Shannon McAlinden, a junior from Riverview, Michigan, was once again one of the top hitters on the team as she recorded 82 hits, 9 home runs, 53 RBIs, and had a .410 batting average. McAlinden also recorded 40 steals on the season which tied for the 15th-most in the NAIA. She was named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) First Team this season as well. 

 

 

Payton Lewis, a sophomore from Vicksburg, Michigan, tallied 90 hits on the year, which was second in the NAIA, while also sporting a batting average of .429. Lewis brought in 37 runners this season with 17 doubles, three triples, and three home runs. She recorded a slash line of .429/.481/.581 (AVG/OBP/SLG). Lewis was named the WHAC Player of the Year last month as well. 

 

McAlinden and Lewis join two other Cardinals that were honored by the NAIA as Robin Santiago (2002) was a First Team All-American and Lisa Landerschier (1994) was named to the Honorable Mention list.
