Cardinals STUNT set to begin inaugural season

Concordia STUNT will kick off its inaugural season this month. The sport of STUNT was developed by USA Cheer.  According to USA Cheer,

According to USA Cheer, "STUNT, one of the fastest growing female sports in the country, removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps and tumbling. These elements are put together in short routines that both teams must perform head-to-head on the floor at the same time. The team that executes the skills best wins the round and the point, and has the opportunity to determine which of routine level will be called next. With four quarters of play – partner stunts, pyramids & tosses, jumps & tumbling, and team routine – STUNT is an exciting sport to play, coach and watch."

Concordia's STUNT program began in 2019 with a scrimmage season. The pandemic delayed their 2020 start, and they are excited to jump in full force for 2021. According to Head Coach Kate Edge, "our STUNT team gives an opportunity to many talented female cheer athletes, we are excited to have the opportunity to expand our program and bring STUNT to Concordia. Our graduate assistant Whitney Irmeger, who competed on that first team in 2019, has been doing a great job getting this team prepped. We are all excited to get this first season going."

Concordia will open up their season with a virtual scrimmage on March 18 verse Hiram College. "This will gives us an opportunity to get our feet wet and allow the athletes to get a feel for the structure of STUNT matches," says coach Kate Edge. "The format is so different to that of what our co-ed team competes. We know our fans will love watching these head to head contests."
